What is ALT (Altlayer)?
AltLayer represents an open and decentralized protocol specifically designed to address the complexities and limitations of current rollup technology in the blockchain domain. AltLayer aims to unify and enhance the rollup ecosystem by integrating various innovative rollup stacks such as OP Stack, Arbitrum Orbit, ZKStack, and Polygon CDK, among others. This integration facilitates a seamless amalgamation of existing rollup technologies, providing them with superior security, decentralization, interoperability, and crypto-economic fast finality.
The inception of AltLayer was driven by the recognition of certain inadequacies in the rollup space, particularly around security, scalability, and finality. Rollups, which are solutions designed to increase blockchain scalability and efficiency, often grapple with challenges such as limited validator participation, slow finality times on base layers like Ethereum, and a reliance on centralized sequencer nodes for transaction processing. AltLayer's introduction of Restaked rollups is a revolutionary step towards mitigating these issues. Restaked rollups leverage the concept of re-staking, where the security and decentralization of the network are enhanced through a unique mechanism that pools security assets across different rollups.
Through its Rollup-as-a-Service (RaaS) feature, AltLayer democratizes access to rollup technology, allowing for the rapid deployment of custom Layer 2 solutions without the need for extensive coding knowledge. This service is designed to cater to a wide array of applications, from gaming to social media, by providing tools that ensure faster transaction finality, decentralized sequencing, and robust security.

How does ALT (Altlayer) work?
AltLayer operates on a foundation of modularity and flexibility, allowing users to tailor their rollup solutions according to specific needs. Its architecture is built to support various runtime environments, including EVM and Wasm, and offers choices for data availability layers and settlement layers, such as Ethereum, Arbitrum, or external options like Celestia. This modular approach ensures that AltLayer rollups can dynamically scale to meet demand fluctuations, making the platform highly adaptable and capable of supporting diverse applications.
One of the standout features of AltLayer is its implementation of fraud proofs and tiered finality. Unlike traditional rollup solutions where only selected network participants can identify and report fraudulent transactions, AltLayer empowers any node within the network to flag potential fraud. This decentralized verification process, coupled with the platform's tiered finality mechanism, significantly enhances the security and integrity of transactions. The Beacon Layer, acting as a decentralized sequencer, ensures that block finalization is accurate and reliable by introducing multiple layers of verification before confirming transactions.
AltLayer is based on an optimized rollups solution and consists of three key products:
VITAL: Vital acts as an enshrined verification layer for rollups. It consists of a network of AVS-registered operators that verify all new states proposed across by SQUAD operators. Vital operators detect invalid state roots and can challenge SQUAD operators in a bisection protocol.
MACH: A protocol that accelerates the final confirmation of aggregates by enabling operators to manage Ethereum-based assets, facilitating the validation or endorsement of the aggregate's state. In order to guarantee finality, MACH as a network needs to verify the validity of a rollup state to ensure that the rollup operators have followed the state transition function correctly. To this end, MACH supports three state validity modes.
SQUAD: Offers decentralized sequencing supported by economic mechanisms. This approach addresses short-term activity fluctuations, mitigates the negative effects of Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) practices, prevents rent extraction, and resolves other issues tied to systems dependent on a single sequencer.

Furthermore, AltLayer introduces the concept of flash layer rollups and persistent rollups. Flash layer rollups are designed for temporary, high-demand scenarios such as token launches or large-scale airdrops, providing the necessary scalability and flexibility for such events. Persistent rollups, on the other hand, offer a solution for applications requiring sustained performance over time.
ALT (Altlayer) market price & tokenomics
The ALT token serves as the backbone of the AltLayer ecosystem, facilitating a range of functions from staking and governance to protocol incentives and transaction fee payments. Launched with a vision to bolster the platform's decentralized and secure nature, the ALT token plays a critical role in enabling a participatory governance model where token holders can influence the platform's direction and policies.
The tokenomics of ALT are designed to ensure a balanced distribution and sustainable ecosystem growth. With a capped supply of 10 billion tokens, ALT's distribution strategy includes allocations for airdrops, staking rewards, and operational reserves, ensuring that participants are incentivized to contribute to the network's security and development. The initial airdrop campaign, which distributed 3% of the total supply, aimed to encourage early adoption and engagement within the community. As of now, ALT (Altlayer) is ranked #116 by CoinMarketCap with market capitalization of $566,185,075 USD. The current circulating supply of ALT coins is 1,100,000,000.
On February 19, 2024, AltLayer announced via Twitter its significant achievement of securing $14.4 million from prominent venture capitals in a strategic funding round. This marks a pivotal moment for the company and ALT price rise, underscoring its unstoppable momentum towards innovating restaked rollups and introducing revolutionary Web3 infrastructure to the industry.
