Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s family-backed cryptocurrency platform, World Liberty Financial, has become a target for scammers, misleading over 70,000 users with fake cryptocurrency giveaways. Scammers exploited the platform’s official Telegram channel, posting fraudulent ads that redirected users to a fake group promising $15,000 in cryptocurrency.
Since its launch last month, World Liberty Financial has quickly amassed over 230,000 subscribers on its official Telegram channel, positioning itself as a competitor to traditional banks. However, cybercriminals have taken advantage of the platform’s rapid growth by posting fake ads on the legitimate channel. These ads led users to a fraudulent group named “World Liberty Financial Airdrop,” which now has 74,741 subscribers and falsely promises up to $15,000 in cryptocurrency to users who connect their crypto wallets, placing their funds at risk.
In response, the official Telegram channel for World Liberty Financial has issued multiple warnings. One message stated: “Please be aware of scams and fake tokens claiming to be associated with ‘Defiant Ones,’ ‘World Liberty,’ or similar names. Do not engage with these tokens.”
The platform also offered guidance for spotting fake ads, emphasizing that genuine posts will never be labeled “Sponsored” or “Ad.” Users were urged to report suspicious content and remain cautious. Another message warned: “Please do not click on any ads or links claiming to be associated with World Liberty Financial. We are NOT conducting any airdrops or selling any tokens at this time.”
Meanwhile, Trump continues to advocate for his pro-crypto stance, branding himself the “crypto president.” He has proposed a “national bitcoin stockpile” if re-elected and recently launched his fourth non-fungible token (NFT) collection.
