A recent survey from venture capital firm Paradigm reveals that 20% of respondents currently own or have previously owned cryptocurrency. Conducted in October 2024, the poll also shows that 5% of participants identify as single-issue crypto voters in the upcoming U.S. presidential election. This suggests that the pro-crypto voting bloc could play a crucial role in an election predicted to have extremely narrow margins.
The Paradigm poll further highlights that about one-quarter of crypto owners surveyed consider themselves single-issue crypto voters. This demographic includes 11% of respondents aged 18-34, 8% of male respondents, 7% of African American voters, and 8% of Hispanic voters. Notably, Paradigm points out that the 5% of pro-crypto, single-issue voters is more than double the typical margin of victory in critical swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, where elections are often decided by just 1-2%.
Additionally, the poll reveals a partisan split in trust on crypto policy. About 30% of respondents view the Republican Party as more trustworthy on crypto issues, while 24% lean toward the Democratic Party. However, a significant 42% of crypto voters expressed distrust toward both parties on the topic of crypto regulation. While there is a slight preference for the Republican Party among pro-crypto voters, neither Donald Trump nor Kamala Harris has a commanding lead in the popular vote.
These poll results contrast with betting odds on platforms like Polymarket, where Trump holds a substantial 30-point lead over Harris. Trump’s lead surged in early October, raising concerns of market manipulation. Polymarket initiated an investigation and traced the pro-Trump bets back to a single, unnamed “whale” investor—allegedly a French national with considerable finance and trading expertise.
The Paradigm poll’s suggestion—that single-issue crypto voters could influence the 2024 election—is echoed by Pennsylvania State University law professor Dr. Tonya M. Evans. She believes that, with razor-thin margins likely, single-issue voting blocs like pro-crypto voters could significantly impact the final outcome. Her perspective supports Paradigm’s findings, underscoring the potential influence of this bloc in determining the next U.S. president.
