FameEX Hot Topics | Is Jack Dorsey Actually Satoshi Nakamoto? Bold Theory Reignites Debate Over Bitcoin's Creator
2025-02-20 09:12:15A new theory has sparked lively debate about the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, suggesting Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Square and founder of Twitter (now known as X), could be the creator of Bitcoin. This hypothesis gained attention when Matthew Sigel, head of digital assets research at Vaneck, shared his thoughts on the social media platform X. Sigel stated that while the evidence is not definitive, a combination of technical parallels, circumstantial links, and curious coincidences makes the idea worth exploring.
Sigel’s comments were partly inspired by research conducted by Seán Murray, who compiled a detailed analysis pointing to connections between Dorsey and Nakamoto. Murray highlighted Dorsey’s early involvement in the cypherpunk movement and his cryptographic background, noting that Satoshi once logged into an IRC channel from a California IP address, where Dorsey resided at the time. Other clues include references in Bitcoin’s original code that appear to tie back to Dorsey and a timeline of Bitcoin-related events aligning with key moments in Dorsey’s career. These factors, according to Murray, suggest Dorsey may have played a role in Bitcoin’s inception.
Critics of the theory argue that publicizing such speculation could be detrimental to Bitcoin’s community, but Sigel disagrees. He emphasized that Bitcoin’s decentralized nature ensures no single individual can wield control over the protocol, even if the person suspected of being Satoshi still holds a substantial portion of the Bitcoin supply. Furthermore, he suggested that clarifying Satoshi’s identity could reduce uncertainty surrounding the estimated 1.1 million BTC in Satoshi’s wallet and alleviate concerns about the potential impact on Bitcoin’s price stability.
The theory also stands in contrast to previous claims about Satoshi’s identity, which have implicated figures such as Paul Le Roux, Nick Szabo, and Hal Finney. None of these individuals have been definitively proven to be Nakamoto, and many have publicly denied any involvement. In the case of Dorsey, Sigel argued that subtle references—such as Satoshi-themed shirts and cryptic remarks—might hint at a connection without outright confirmation. He also noted that Dorsey played a key role in countering Craig Wright’s claims of being Satoshi, further fueling curiosity about his possible involvement.
Sigel concluded that even if Dorsey is not Nakamoto, investigating the theory could still provide valuable insights. He expressed hope that by scrutinizing the available evidence, the community could move closer to the truth or confirm that Satoshi’s identity is truly meant to remain a mystery.
