DeSantis is Accurate in Saying That CBDCs Will Result in Total Government Control

It is evident that governments all over the world, from China to Canada, are drooling at the thought of introducing currencies they can easily manage.

One of Washington's go-to icebreakers appears to be debating the wisdom and ramifications of launching a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the United States. It is crucial that Americans comprehend the vast power that a CBDC may provide governments and the intolerable risk of that authority being potentially abused while Congress analyzes the issue.

The usage of CBDC was proposed to be outlawed in Florida by Governor Ron DeSantis in March. He made the case that the nation's financial system should not be completely controlled by the federal government. A CBDC was defended by the White House as a means of furthering "human rights, democratic values, and privacy" in its economic report that was published shortly after. The internal argument is further influenced by the fact that several nations and monetary systems have started to create and issue their own CBDCs.

Even while no technology has an intrinsic evil, the effects of possible technological misuse vary greatly. A CBDC system is thus fundamentally only a tool; it is neither intrinsically good nor harmful on its own. However, the negative consequences of a CBDC's abuse are so great that the idea should be abandoned. Even while the potential of such authority being abused today appears absurd, the concept of entirely centralizing "absolute control" over people's freedom to engage in business via a CBDC should be abhorrent to free nations.

However, it is not absurd, at least not in the United States. It would be stupid to disregard both the potential for a CBDC to be utilized for the same purpose, and America's lengthy history of establishing an extensive financial monitoring apparatus. Now is the time for American legislators to halt that trend and create a better system that consistently upholds the right of individuals to privacy.

The World May Be In For a Gloomy Future Due to CBDCs

Similar to this, the Canadian government invoked emergency powers last year to instruct banks to block the accounts of anyone taking part in rallies it deemed illegal. Regardless of whether one thinks using such strong powers in any specific case was justifiable, these occurrences must cause everyone who is, or expects to ever conceivably be, on the wrong side of a government, to stop. Importantly, these measures were carried out with a mechanism that is cumbersome in comparison to a CBDC's harsh efficiency.

Regardless of whether one is concerned about a CBDC's ability to give the government "absolute control" over extremely personal life decisions or about the federal government targeting disadvantaged individuals or groups broadly, Americans of all political and ideological stripes should share a common cause in opposing its issuance. An entirely centralized financial system practically begs to be misused. The concept of releasing one should be viewed with severe skepticism, if not outright rejection, given the chance that such a potent instrument may be utilized on a societal level for illegal, unethical, or restricting purposes.
